Tomcats

Since 2002 we are a member of Somali Abyssinian Netherlands (SAN). Since then we have received the mating lists and changes to them. The number of tomcats available for mating has almost decimated since 2002. Many breeders seem to refrain from matings with strnge queens or limit their tomcat  for mating. For a small breed like the Abyssinian, we think that is a worrying development.
Although we are not in favor of over-regulation, it seems worth considering the application of the KWPN model in abyssinian breeding, with a few adjustments
For the time being, we will have to cope with the current model with all associated health risks in the area of hereditary diseases.

We ourselves decided to keep one or more studs and to make them available for matings under clear and reasonable conditions. These conditions are primarily intended to promote a healthy variety. Because we rarely participate in shows, the males will not easily win an appealing title.
At this moment we have a silver-silver stud (Kasper) available, and we have a black silver (Saint) available for the near future.
Saint was aqcuired for a breeding program in which breeders from the Netherlands, Sweden and Finland work together to revive the black-silver breeding.

Tomcats.
Tomcats strongly influence breeding. Therefore, in the past, diseases such as PKdef and PRA could spread rapidly, certainly within a small breed s the abyssinian. Nowadays every breeder is sufficiently aware of the risks and convinced that healthy males must be used.
Today everyone has the possibility to test on PKdef and PRA via a DNA test (for example Laboklin, blood or cotton swab). The blood group and any color factors can also be determined by means of a DNA test. We make the following requirements for our stud farms:

  • at least one U1 on a show
  • free of PKdef (N / N), free from PRA (N / N), blood group A or Ab, to be determined by a DNA test
  • free of FELV and FIV (to be determined once a year via blood sample)
  • annual vaccination against cat flu and cat leukemia: we also vaccinate against chlamydia.

Queens.
We set the same requirements for a cat to mate as we do for our males. The following notes apply here:

  •  vaccinations must be at least one month old, and not older than one year in case of death virus and two years in live virus
  • FELV and FIV tests must be up to two months old. After the tests, the cat did not go to a different stud and did not participate in cat shows.
  • the cat has had no more than three litters in 24 months, and does not get more than three litters in a continuous period of 24 months. It is at least six months since your cat has cared for a litter.
  • Even if your cat has blood type B, you can contact us formating, although we are not in favor of it. You must also realize what the risks are. When a cat with blood group B is used, the right to a re-mating expires.

Kittens.
With you we hope that the result of a mating consists of a number of healthy and cheerful kittens with the desired characteristics. Unfortunately we can not give a guarantee for this. Breeding continues to be gambling. We would apreciate to visit you and have a look when the litter is six weeks old.
If you want to sell kittens, we expect you to fully respect the rules of your and our breeding club. If the rules of the breeding associations contradict each other then those of our breeding club prevail. We assume that you will have young cats sterilized at around eight months unless we explicitly agree otherwise. Certificates for applying for a pedigree are issued in accordance with the agreements made.
Of course these principles also apply to nests that we breed ourselves.

Matings.
If we accept an application for mating, you are bound by the principles described above and the conditions from the mating agreement signed by both parties.
The following agreements also apply

  • Your queen will be presented to us in good condition, with at least the nails of the front legs cut and is free from parasites and fleas.
  • You supply the cat with valid inoculation and test certificates and a copy of the pedigree. Tests and vaccinations comply with the above.
  • During the mating period we are responsible for the proper care of your cat. She receives the same care as our males and cats.
  • The costs resulting from injuries during themating period are for the account of the owner.
  • The costs for the tomcat are for our account
  • A re-cover of the same male will be given a maximum of twice if the cat does not pick up. If the male is no longer available, the right to re-cover expires.
  • If only one kitten is born, you are entitled to a re-mating of the same male, only if it is still available.
  • As soon as you have delivered your cat to us for matingr and we have accepted it, you will owe the agreed stud fee.
  • The stud fee must be paid before you pick up your cat.
